About Indian Canyons

Indian Canyons in Palm Springs comprises ancestral Cahuilla tribal lands with more than 60 miles of hiking and walking trails across multiple canyons. Palm Canyon, fifteen miles long, features California Fan Palms, indigenous flora and fauna, and a moderately graded footpath suitable for picnicking, meditation, exploring, hiking or horseback riding. Andreas Canyon contains more than 150 plant species, scenic fan palm groves, rock formations and Andreas Creek, with visible bedrock mortars and metates used centuries ago for food preparation. Murray Canyon offers accessible recreation areas with many palms where visitors may encounter Peninsular Big Horn Sheep, mule deer or the endangered Least Bells Vireo. Popular trails include the easy 1.2-mile Andreas route, the moderate 4.7-mile Murray Canyon hike and the strenuous 12.3-mile Hahn Buena Vista trail. A Trading Post in Palm Canyon sells hiking maps, refreshments, Indian art, artifacts, books, jewelry, pottery and baskets. The canyons suit hikers, photographers, bird-watchers and picnickers seeking natural desert scenery.
