About Common Roots Farm

Common Roots Farm grows healthy vegetables, herbs, fruit, and beautiful flowers on a four-acre urban organic farm near downtown Santa Cruz, where visitors of all abilities work alongside one another in the Seed to Salad accessible garden, care for farm animals, and learn horticulture and farm skills. The farm operates a farm stand where the community can purchase fresh produce, and offers internships to people with developmental disabilities along with environmental and gardening education programs. An eight-foot-wide path circles the entire farm, providing wheelchair access to the greenhouse, production fields, and wash and pack area, with universal design principles throughout to accommodate those using mobility aids or managing sensory challenges. The farm also hosts farm-based social events that build relationships between people with and without disabilities. Through a community supported agriculture program, farmers market sales, and restaurant partnerships, Common Roots Farm enhances food security while contributing to ecological stewardship in Santa Cruz.
