About City Slicker Farms

City Slicker Farms is an urban farming education center in Oakland operated by Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project. Visitors participate in guided tours of the working farm, learning about sustainable agriculture practices and seasonal crops. During farm visits, participants engage in age-appropriate work projects such as planting and transplanting, exploring soil and compost, and observing beneficial insects like bees and worms. The farm offers customized educational experiences covering topics including where food comes from, local food systems, ecosystems, and environmental sustainability. Visitors can also taste and harvest produce, learning to identify vegetables through all five senses. Farm visits accommodate groups ranging from pre-K through college students, with experiences tailored to align with educational goals and interests. ANV operates three farms across Oakland, engaging young people and families in hands-on outdoor learning that strengthens understanding of nutrition, food production, and connection to community.
