About Cedarville Area Historial Society

The Cedarville Area Historical Society occupies the restored 1889 Cedarville School building on Second Street in Cedarville, Illinois. Established in 1975, the museum houses a permanent exhibit focused on Jane Addams's early years in Cedarville before she moved to Chicago to establish Hull-House with Ellen Gates Starr. The society displays many artifacts from that period and features changing exhibits that rotate throughout the season. A Research Center is available for visitors seeking to explore local history in greater depth. The museum operates seasonally and can be opened by appointment for groups. The facilities are also available for private functions including weddings, reunions, and meetings. The society presents educational programs, including livestreamed lectures on historical topics such as the Lincoln-Douglas debates and their connection to American history.
