About Dillon Home Museum

The Dillon Home Museum occupies an 1858 Italianate mansion built for Civil War Brigadier General Edward Needles Kirk. Visitors tour the home on guided visits to explore local history through original furnishings, period furniture, and eclectic collected pieces that fill the rooms. The house passed through several owners before a previous proprietor purchased it; the subsequent owner's wife was an avid traveler and collector whose acquisitions remain on display throughout the residence. Unlike most historic home museums, the Dillon Home retains all original furnishings and belongings from the estate, preserved virtually untouched by time. The residence reflects the grandeur of its later owner, who served as President of Northwestern Steel and Wire. Visitors encounter the parlor, dining room, and bedrooms decorated with Victorian-era objects, artwork, and personal collections that document the family's life and taste during the late nineteenth century.
