About Atascadero Historical Museum

The Atascadero Historical Museum preserves the unique history of the Atascadero Colony and the surrounding community through two restored historic buildings. The Colony House Museum, an original 1919 Arts and Crafts style home, features the Hattie Prather Rose Garden on its grounds. The Historic City Hall Building, circa 1914–1918, has been fully restored and offers docent-led tours by appointment that explore the early history of Atascadero. Visitors can learn about E.G. Lewis and the early colony residents who established California's first master-planned community designed to accommodate the automobile. The Society also operates the developing Colony Heritage Center project, which will relocate four historic colony homes to its location along Highway 41 to further document the progression from the colony's inception to the present day. The museums are located in Atascadero, California.
