The Appalachian Women's Museum in Dillsboro preserves and shares the stories of Southern Appalachian women past, present, and future. Visitors tour the Monteith Farmstead, a historic farmhouse over one hundred years old listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, along with several outbuildings situated on an acre and a half of grounds. The museum features rotating exhibits, including the Cherokee Women of Southern Appalachia exhibit, which showcases Cherokee women's accomplishments and contributions within the Eastern Band and western North Carolina. The grounds include a victory garden planted by the AWM Garden Ladies, who donate excess vegetables to local food assistance organizations. The museum hosts community events including Music on the Porch, featuring live performances and demonstrations.
