About Blowing Rock Art & History Museum
Blowing Rock Art & History Museum displays rotating exhibitions of art and regional history in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Visitors explore galleries featuring photography, landscape painting, and cultural heritage. Current and recent exhibitions have included Silver & Smoke, presenting work by photographers George Masa and Ansel Adams; Field Studies, exploring ways of knowing place in Southern Appalachia; Barbara Grenell's Mountain Tapestries; Horizon Line, surveying 250 years of American landscape art; Blowing Rock, A History; and Cherokee Baskets, celebrating woven heritage. The museum offers docent-led tours and focus tours that examine individual exhibitions in depth. Programming throughout the year includes the Blowing Rock Plein Air Festival, where artists create paintings outdoors in the surrounding mountains, followed by a show and sale. Cocktails with the Curator events combine gallery tours with conversation. Visitors may sketch in galleries with pencils and take personal photographs in most spaces. General admission is free.
