About The Mitford Museum
The Mitford Museum & Discovery Center, founded by bestselling author Jan Karon in the restored Hudson Arts Center schoolhouse where she attended grades 1–7, welcomes fans of the Mitford novels, lifelong learners, families, and students to explore personal artifacts, letters, and memorabilia from Karon's creative journey. Current exhibits include Food & Family, which focuses on comfort and nostalgia themes from the Mitford series. The museum hosts the annual Candace Freeland Photography of Merit Award for youth photographers ages 8–22, the GetLit! literary weekend featuring bestselling authors and writing contests, a Summer Reading Program for regional youth, and an Oral History Library partnership with StoryCorps that preserves community stories in the Library of Congress. Visitors browse the Happy Endings Bookstore for exclusive Mitford gifts, books, home décor, apparel, and ornaments. The museum charges admission with multiple price tiers published online.
