About Catawba County Museum of History
The History Museum of Catawba County in Newton preserves and interprets the region's cultural heritage through exhibits and artifacts. Visitors explore displays documenting Catawba County's role in the development of the Western Piedmont of North Carolina. A featured interactive exhibit allows guests to examine a rare surviving British military coat from the American Revolution in 360-degree detail, rotating and enlarging the garment to view its epaulettes, gold lace officer's cuffs, buttons, and regimental details from every angle. The museum operates as part of the Catawba County Historical Association, an independent nonprofit founded in 1944 that also operates three additional historic sites: Bunker Hill Covered Bridge, Murray's Mill Historic District, and Harper House in Hickory. The museum houses thousands of artifacts and maintains an extensive archive documenting local history. The museum charges admission and publishes its prices online.
