About Fort Dobbs State Historic Site
Fort Dobbs State Historic Site in Statesville preserves a reconstructed blockhouse fort on its original foundation, completed in 2019 with a fully furnished interior viewable by guided daily tour. The visitor center, finished in early 2026, houses an expanded gift shop and restrooms, with an exhibit gallery opening soon. A log cabin built by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1941 from nineteenth-century logs stands on the grounds and is being developed into a trades demonstration space. The site features a half-mile nature trail with native plants and trees, a covered picnic shelter, and accessible parking a short walk from the fort. Leashed dogs are welcome on the grounds. Guided tours are offered multiple times daily Tuesday through Saturday, except state holidays. The grounds and visitor center are free to explore, while tour admission is charged at published rates.
