About Shelton House - History, Heritage, and Craft - Home of The Museum of NC Craft and History

Shelton House - History, Heritage, and Craft - Home of The Museum of NC Craft and History showcases regional heritage crafts including pottery, woodworks, baskets, and fiber art within a restored 150-year-old historic home and barn in Waynesville. Visitors choose between self-guided tours at no cost or 30-minute docent-led tours through curated collections that tell stories of Appalachian craft traditions and local history. The main floor of the barn and first floor of the house are accessible, while volunteer-maintained gardens provide additional grounds to explore. The museum operates Thursday through Saturday during its season, and the grounds remain open daily. Children under 12 enter free with a paid adult docent tour, as listed through October 31 on the site. Haywood County residents receive free guided tours on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
