About The North Carolina Arboretum
The North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville is a 434-acre public garden and nature preserve where visitors explore cultivated gardens, hiking trails, and rotating exhibits. The arboretum features 65 acres of gardens including the Bonsai Exhibition Garden and the National Native Azalea Collection, plus more than 10 miles of hiking and biking trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. The Carolina Mountain Trail offers a 1.2-mile moderate hike through three forest types toward Bent Creek and cascading waters. An EcoLab contains live reptiles and amphibians, while the Baker Exhibit Hall displays rotating art and science exhibits. Educational programs include hands-on adult classes in horticulture, nature arts, and conservation science, plus the ecoExplore program for children emphasizing citizen science. Certificate programs in Blue Ridge Naturalist and Blue Ridge EcoGardener studies are available.
