The North Carolina Arboretum features the Bonsai Exhibition Garden and more than 65 acres of cultivated gardens alongside 10 miles of hiking trails through Southern Appalachian forests. Visitors walk the Carolina Mountain Trail, a 1.2-mile moderate hike that descends toward Bent Creek and Wolf Branch cascades, or explore diverse terrain on the property's many other paths. The Baker Exhibit Hall displays rotating exhibits like the Wolves photography collection by Ronan Donovan. The Arbor Eatery serves handmade sandwiches, salads, and locally sourced seasonal fare. Adult education courses teach horticulture, nature arts, and conservation science, while the ecoExplore program engages children in citizen science. Certificate programs in Blue Ridge Naturalist and Blue Ridge EcoGardener training are available. The Arboretum sits in Asheville on 434 acres accessible from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
