About Asheville Museum of Science

Asheville Museum of Science is Western North Carolina's center for hands-on science learning, where visitors explore interactive exhibits and discover through direct engagement. Young learners ages 3–12 explore fossil excavation, experiments in the STEAM Lab, and stargazing activities while examining minerals from the museum's historic Colburn collection. The Hall of Minerals showcases specimens spanning nearly a century, rooted in engineer Burnham Standish Colburn's personal collecting passion from the 1920s. Programs include School's Out camps, birthday parties, and special after-hours events like Dinner Under Dinos. The museum operates Monday through Sunday with hours published on its website, and tickets sell online through the venue's site. Located in downtown Asheville, the museum offers several admission savings: Go Local Asheville cardholders save $1, EBT cardholders pay $5 per person with photo ID, Bank of America cardholders receive one free admission the first weekend of each month, Buncombe County Libraries offers free admission for up to four guests, and homeschool students receive 10 percent off each visit.
