About Wright's Ferry Mansion

Wright's Ferry Mansion houses the Louise Steinman von Hess Foundation's collection of pre-1750 fine art, decorative arts, and furnishings in a restored 1738 house in Columbia, Pennsylvania. Visitors take guided tours through rooms displaying ceramics, glassware, cabinet work, seating, and fine art that represent daily colonial life along the Susquehanna River. The mansion reflects the intellectual pursuits of its original owner, Susanna Wright, known as "the blue stocking of the Susquehanna." Professional staff lead tours restricted to ten attendees per group, with visitors able to view period rooms and the mansion's near encyclopedic collection recognized as among the most important in the nation. Tours operate during published hours and reservations are advised. The historic structure requires visitors to comfortably ascend and descend stairs and stand for a full hour. A virtual tour with narration by an authority on American decorative arts is also available online for those unable to visit in person.
