About Historic Rock Ford

Historic Rock Ford is a museum in Lancaster that centers on the General Edward Hand Mansion, a late-Georgian estate built around 1794, and the John J. Snyder, Jr. Gallery of Early Lancaster County Decorative Arts. Visitors take guided tours through the Hand Mansion's period rooms, including the Gold Parlor, Master Bedchamber, and Girls Bedchamber, while learning about General Hand's medical career and his subsequent business and political roles. The Snyder Gallery displays a nationally recognized collection of Lancaster County decorative arts from roughly 1760 to 1820, featuring furniture, portraiture, long rifles, tall case clocks, and silver. The thirty-three-acre property includes a historic kitchen garden and walking paths through woods and grounds. Visitors also learn about the diverse lives of tenants, servants, and laborers—enslaved, indentured, and free—who lived and worked at Rock Ford. The site is located in southeast Lancaster City near Lancaster County Central Park.
