About World’s Largest Working Fire Hydrant

The World's Largest Working Fire Hydrant stands 24 feet tall outside the Fire Museum of Texas in downtown Beaumont. This white and black-spotted hydrant, weighing 4,500 pounds and capable of blasting 1,500 gallons of water per minute, holds the world record for largest working fire hydrant. Donated by Walt Disney in 1999 to promote the re-release of "101 Dalmatians," it was assembled at Disneyland and constructed of fiberglass reinforced with 1,000 feet of steel. The Fire Museum of Texas houses the hydrant alongside antique horse-drawn and motorized fire equipment and unusual firefighting artifacts. Upstairs, the Fire Safety Activity Center demonstrates 30 fire and home safety facts. The museum also displays a wooden pipe installed in Beaumont in 1883 and several antique fire hydrants, including a 1908 Darling Valve. General admission is free.
