About William Root House Museum & Garden
The William Root House Museum & Garden in Marietta offers visitors a chance to explore one of the Atlanta area's oldest and best preserved homes through interactive exhibits and a fully self-guided touchscreen tour. Upon arrival, guests check in at a Gift Shop housed in a restored 1830s log cabin featuring local handcrafted items. Inside the 180-year-old house, touchscreens, activity books, scavenger hunts, and interactive areas engage visitors of all ages while examining the lives of the Root family and their enslaved house servants. Exhibits thoughtfully present the stories of enslaved individuals through recently discovered family papers and public documents. The museum grounds include gardens planted with period-appropriate vegetables, herbs, fruit trees, and flowers researched for mid-19th-century availability in Georgia. The Georgia Association of Museums recognized the William Root House for excellence in exhibition design and interactive technology. The museum publishes admission prices online and operates on a limited weekly schedule.
