About Washington Historical Museum

Washington Historical Museum occupies a house built around 1835 and displays artifacts, memorabilia, and antiques spanning more than 200 years of local history. Visitors tour furnished rooms authentically decorated with period antiques, including the master bedroom, dining room, kitchen, and parlors. The museum's collection features notable items such as Jefferson Davis' field desk, Dave the Slave pottery, an Eli Whitney Cotton Gin, and George Washington's gravy boat. Exhibits detail the biographies of influential regional figures including Robert Toombs, Alexander Stephens, and E.M. Bounds. The museum offers both self-guided and guided tours and maintains a gift shop and public restrooms on site. Free parking is available. The museum is located in Washington, Georgia and serves all ages.
