About Lucy Craft Laney Museum

Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History preserves the former home of Lucy Craft Laney, a nationally prominent educator and social reformer born in Macon in 1854. Visitors take guided tours through the museum's permanent exhibitions, including the Lucy Craft Laney Exhibition, the Pilgrim Health and Life Insurance Exhibition, and the Augusta Ebony Legacy Collection, which document Black Augustans' contributions at local, state, national, and international levels. The museum also features rotating art, history, and sports exhibitions showcasing emerging and established artists. Outside, a bronze bust of Miss Laney created by sculptor Norman Hughes stands above a commemorative brick inlay. Surrounding grounds include a butterfly garden and period garden that display indigenous flowers, plants, shrubbery, birds, and butterflies across the seasons. Guided tours are offered Tuesday through Saturday at three times daily. The museum is located in Augusta, Georgia, near Laney-Walker Boulevard and Phillips Street.
