About Walker Education Center - SHSU

The Katy and E. Don Walker Sr. Education Center is an exhibit and information center within the Sam Houston Memorial Museum Complex in Huntsville, Texas. Visitors explore an exhibit gallery featuring displays about Sam Houston and Texas history. The 18,500-square-foot facility houses a dedicated Sam Houston and Texas History library where guests can research regional topics and historical figures. An artifact room preserves and displays objects significant to the museum's collections. An auditorium hosts lectures, presentations, and educational programs. Built to commemorate General Sam Houston's bicentennial in 1993, the center stands on the museum grounds west of the main campus. The facility serves students, educators, and history enthusiasts seeking deeper knowledge of Texas heritage and the life of General Sam Houston. The center opens Tuesday through Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons, with Monday closures.
