About Heritage Museum of Montgomery County

The Heritage Museum of Montgomery County educates visitors about the region's history through exhibits in two historic homes and several outdoor structures. The main collection occupies the Grogan-Cochran home, built in 1924 by lumber magnate J. G. Grogan. The Strake-Gray Oilfield House, relocated from the Conroe Oilfield, focuses on oil industry workers' lives. A Roughneck Bunkhouse displays where oil company employees slept between shifts. Permanent and temporary exhibits showcase Montgomery County's roots in lumber and oil industries alongside everyday life. Current temporary exhibits include The Latino Journey of Montgomery County, curated by the Texas Familias Council, and Guilford: Son of the Master. The museum also features work by internationally known artist Mark Clapham, including drawings, paintings, and sculptures. A resource collection of oral histories, special events, and programs for adults and children complement the exhibits. The museum is located in Conroe, Texas, and includes a gift shop offering handmade and Texas-themed items.
