Underground Railroad Education Center in Albany, New York interprets the history of the Underground Railroad, the first integrated civil rights movement in the United States. Visitors tour the Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence, a headquarters for Underground Railroad activity in the Capital Region during the mid-1850s, where freedom seekers found refuge and the Vigilance Committee met. The restored 1847 building features period details from its elegant 1850s character, including a rear stairway and accessible entrance with brick walkway. The center also presents the Black Experience Exhibit Series, a traveling collection of pop-up exhibits featuring stories that illuminate Black history in the Capital Region and beyond. The center organizes educational bus trips, such as journeys to Kingston exploring the life of Sojourner Truth, an advocate for freedom and justice who spent her life in New York. Admission is charged, with tickets sold online through the organization's website. The center serves families, students, and adults seeking to learn about and engage with this crucial chapter of American history.
