Timber Lanes Bowling Alley, Chicago

About Timber Lanes Bowling Alley

Timber Lanes Bowling Alley is a classic bowling destination where visitors roll balls down wood lanes, compete in leagues, or bowl casually while enjoying food and drinks. The alley occupies a brick building with roots in Chicago's Prohibition era, when the space operated as a speakeasy; an underground tunnel from that time still exists next to lane 1. Timber Lanes operates with manual scoring and vintage seating rather than digital systems, preserving the sport's traditional character. The venue hosts dozens of leagues where members have bowled together for decades, alongside birthday parties, corporate events, fundraisers, and weddings. Visitors also attend live music and theme nights held on-site. Whether bowlers come to compete seriously, celebrate an occasion, or simply enjoy a few frames with friends, the alley emphasizes community and lasting connections. Located in Chicago, Illinois, Timber Lanes has been operating since 1945 and remains a neighborhood staple under longtime ownership.
