About The Water Mill Museum

The Water Mill Museum is an 18th-century restored water-powered grist mill where visitors explore exhibits on local history spanning ice harvesting, whaling, the Civil War, the post office, and farming. The main floor displays the mill's original tools, gears, and grinding platform alongside changing exhibits. The second floor features Water Mill's first post office, agricultural history, and a memorial to local military service members. Uncle Fred's Workshop preserves the space where Fred Benedict tinkered and designed until 1952. The museum art gallery shows rotating works by local artists and quilters. The Benedict Potting Shed houses the Clay Art Guild of the Hamptons and pottery-making activities. An outdoor deck overlooks a colonial garden where early settlers grew medicinal herbs and spices. A gift shoppe offers Water Mill-themed items. The museum suits visitors interested in regional history and art, located in Water Mill, New York.
