About The National Civil War Museum

The National Civil War Museum displays nearly 850 artifacts across over 25,000 square feet of galleries that interpret the complete story of the American Civil War, including its causes, battles, and lasting legacy. Visitors explore self-guided exhibition spaces featuring audio and video displays and dioramas that examine the war experience from multiple perspectives, including those of soldiers, civilians, women, children, politicians, and enslaved and liberated peoples. Exhibits include the Jennie Wade story, the role of African American soldiers, and the experiences of Civil War nurses. A typical visit spans two to four hours. School groups participate in scavenger hunts and hands-on educational presentations aligned with Pennsylvania and Common Core Standards. The museum offers "Lessons in History" programs featuring historians and authors discussing Civil War topics. Free on-site parking accommodates all visitors, including buses and RVs. Guests presenting a valid state ID with an EBT/Access/SNAP card receive free admission for one adult and up to three students in the same household.
