Capitol Park in Harrisburg comprises more than 45 acres of grounds surrounding Pennsylvania's State Capitol building, a National Historic Landmark proclaimed one of the most beautiful in the nation. Visitors explore the Capitol's interior featuring paintings, stained glass, and furnishings by master artisans, with distinct Renaissance designs in the House Chamber in Italian style, the Senate Chamber in French style, and the Governor's Reception Room in English style. The building also incorporates Greek, Roman, and Victorian influences throughout its art and ornamentation. The focal point is a spectacular 272-foot dome inspired by Michelangelo's design for St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. The Capitol Complex includes the North Office Building, Irvis Office Building, Forum and Finance buildings, and Soldiers' Grove. Visitors can explore the Interactive Welcome Center with interactive exhibits, view Senate Library exhibits, watch legislative sessions, and browse the Capitol Gift Shop.
