The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito is the world's largest marine mammal hospital, where visitors watch animal care experts provide life-saving treatment to sick and injured seals, sea lions and other patients before release to the wild. Guided tours led by expert-trained docents last 45 minutes and include stories of marine mammal survival and hospital operations. Behind-the-Scenes Experiences let visitors explore the Fish Kitchen where volunteers prepare meals, observe the laboratory, and view patient pens from the observation deck. The renovated Visitor's Center features interactive exhibits and a gift store with ocean-friendly merchandise. The center operates Friday through Monday in the Marin Headlands north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Seniors ages 65 and up, students ages 5 to 17, and military members pay $8 for guided tours and $10 for Behind-the-Scenes Experiences. Children 4 and under tour free, and guests with EBT cards receive up to four free guided tour tickets. Pass holders receive 50 percent off guided tour tickets. Reservations must be made online at marinemammalcenter.org.
