About Rowland House (Historical)

The John Rowland Mansion is the oldest two-story brick building in southern California, constructed in 1855 and now operated as a museum in City of Industry. Visitors tour the restored mansion and the adjacent Dibble Roundhouse Museum, which contains ranch equipment and Indian artifacts. The grounds feature native landscaping and an over-100-year-old English Banksie Rose vine that blooms with tiny white roses each spring. School groups participate in third-grade hands-on tours of the Round House museum. The La Puente Valley Historical Society, established in 1960, hosts monthly community meetings at the mansion and organizes events including an annual barbecue where visitors can enjoy the grounds while learning regional history. Docent-led tours showcase how the property was remodeled in 1897 and highlight the lives of early Southern California settlers and rancho pioneers. The society also presents exhibitions and educational programs exploring local heritage and the diverse human experiences connected to the Rowland Mansion and La Puente Valley.
