About Old Fort Niagara

Old Fort Niagara is a museum where visitors explore centuries-old fortifications and buildings on historic grounds. A visit begins in the visitor center with exhibits and an orientation video featuring original artifacts including an 1812 garrison flag. Guests then tour the fort's 18th-century structures while learning how soldiers and their families lived through living history programs led by interpretation staff. Summer programming includes hourly video presentations, historic weapons demonstrations, Native American history programs, women of the army programs, tactics demonstrations, and military music programs. Winter offerings focus on hourly weapons demonstrations. Special events throughout the year feature expanded programs and reenactors from across the US and Canada who focus on specific historic periods significant to Fort Niagara. Groups can schedule tours and programs in advance. The fort is located in Youngstown, New York, and operates as a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and presenting the site's history.
