Carnegie Art Center occupies a restored 1904 Carnegie Library building in North Tonawanda, New York. Visitors tour rotating exhibitions in the East Gallery and Rotunda Gallery, viewing work by regional artists in media including photography, painting, fiber, clay, encaustic, collage and assemblage. The center hosts artist talks and opening receptions where guests meet creators and learn about their practice. Classes throughout the year teach hands-on skills; recent offerings include bobbin lace instruction where participants learn weaving techniques and create bracelets with provided materials and loaned equipment. Summer programming expands to the grounds with live music and fitness classes. The nonprofit, operating since 1975, serves families, artists and adults seeking visual and performing arts education. The building itself, designed by Edgar Eugene Joralemon and listed on the State and National Register of Historic Sites, retains original Neoclassical architectural features from its opening. General admission to galleries is free.

Baskets from the Garden — Thursday, November 19 | 6-9pm. In this exciting new class you will learn to create a beautiful baskets from area plants that are readily available and sustainable. We’ll be using dried daylilies, daffodils, sedges/grasses and lavender from the instructor’s own garden.
