About Noble Hill-Wheeler Memorial Center
The Noble Hill-Wheeler Memorial Center in Cassville is a restored Rosenwald School built in 1923 as the first school in northwest Georgia constructed with funds dedicated to educating black children. The building operated as a school until 1955, when it was closed following the consolidation of black students into Bartow Elementary School. After restoration in 1989, the structure reopened as a black cultural museum. Visitors explore historical exhibits focused on black culture and lifestyles in Bartow County, with primary emphasis on the late 1800s period. The museum features a gallery showcasing artifacts and information from this era. The center welcomes guests interested in learning about regional African American history and the significance of Rosenwald Schools in educational access. Tours are available by scheduling a visit in advance.
