National Aviary, America's only independent indoor nonprofit zoo dedicated to birds, houses more than 500 birds from over 150 species in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Visitors walk through large habitats to observe free-flying birds, hand-feed Rainbow Lorikeets, and watch immersive bird shows included with admission. The seasonal "Flock to the Forests" exhibit features interactive play spaces alongside African Penguins and the Northeast's only Harpy Eagle. Animal Encounters let guests meet striped skunks and create pawprint paintings to take home. The facility offers Birdly, a virtual-flight experience, and dining at Atria's Kookaburra Café. Located on Pittsburgh's historic Northside near downtown and North Shore stadiums, the National Aviary is ADA-accessible with free wheelchair loans and sensory-friendly accommodations. Active military receive 50% off admission on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day, and 10% off on other open days with valid identification. AZA zoo members receive 50% off, Carnegie Mellon students enter free with ID, and Pennsylvania EBT cardholders pay $5 for up to four guests. Details appear on aviary.org.
