The Museum of the Grand Prairie in Mahomet presents award-winning exhibits that explore the natural and cultural history of Champaign County and East Central Illinois. Visitors explore historical exhibitions and engage with special exhibits such as "A History of Healing," which focuses on infectious diseases and community responses to defeat them. The museum offers school and public programs aligned to learning standards, including events like presentations on local bats and their ecology, bilingual storytelling activities, and historical portrayals featuring figures such as Nancy Lincoln and Sarah Bush Lincoln. A museum store carries educational toys, puzzles, vintage games, home decor, gardening tools, and books. Group visits are welcome with advance arrangement. The museum maintains a research collection available to visitors. Sensory-friendly extended hours are offered every Wednesday. General admission is free.
