About McLean County Museum of History

The McLean County Museum of History occupies the Old McLean County Courthouse, an American Renaissance limestone building constructed between 1901 and 1903 in downtown Bloomington. Visitors explore seven exhibit galleries displaying the region's rich history through more than 18,000 objects. The museum maintains over 15,000 rare and hard-to-find books on local history and genealogy, along with 2,000 feet of historical papers and images in its archives. Exhibits include the Journey to Freedom: Illinois' Underground Railroad exhibition. Educational programs serve people of all ages, with livestreamed and recorded offerings available on the museum's YouTube channel. The institution is nationally accredited and award-winning, dedicated to preserving and sharing the diverse stories of McLean County's people and their heritage.
