About Community Solar System
The Dome Planetarium at Peoria Riverfront Museum features the world's most complete large-scale model of the Solar System, with a scale factor of 99,000,000:1 that spreads across 6,000 square miles of Central Illinois. Visitors explore the Sun, eight planets, five dwarf planets, and numerous unnamed comets distributed throughout the region. The planetarium itself uses a state-of-the-art Evans & Sutherland 6.5K Digistar 7 system with six laser phosphor projectors delivering 360-degree ultra-bright high-resolution views. Regular shows include Earth, Moon, and Sun, Living Worlds, The Sky Tonight presented live, America in Space presented live, and Dawn of the Space Age. The monthly Planet Passport series focuses on individual planets or places in space. Educational outreach programs include Skylab, a telescope program, and astronomy presentations for students. The planetarium is located in Peoria, Illinois.
