About Montour Trail

The Montour Trail is a multi-use, non-motorized rail-trail stretching about 47 miles with branch routes extending the total to over 60 miles. Visitors walk, run, bike, and ride along the relatively flat half-loop pathway that connects Coraopolis to Clairton, with a northwest branch reaching toward Pittsburgh. The trail is the country's longest suburban rail-trail and features the National Tunnel, a historic passage through a mountain. The pathway accommodates various users including those on e-bikes, wheelchairs, and horseback in designated Cecil Township sections. The trail passes through multiple trailheads including McConnell Road and Kurnick, offering access points for users heading in different directions. Amenities include picnic areas and fishing opportunities along the route. Small informal group walks, runs, and rides of 25 or fewer participants are encouraged. The Montour Trail is located in Moon Township and surrounding areas.
