About Montour County Historical Society
Montour County Historical Society operates three museum buildings in Danville that preserve local history through period rooms and artifacts. The Montgomery House, a Federal stone residence built by Danville founder William Montgomery in the late 18th century, contains Montour County memorabilia displayed throughout. The Boyd House, constructed in the early 1880s by Montgomery's grandson, now features a Military Room, Victorian Parlor, and Business & Industry Room showcasing the county's mining, iron, farming, and manufacturing heritage. The Mooresburg One Room Schoolhouse, erected in 1875, houses education artifacts including items related to typewriter inventor Christopher Sholes. A Genealogy Room with Montour County family-tree resources opens on Wednesday mornings. The Montgomery House and Boyd House museums open seasonally; the schoolhouse opens for select dates.
