Mexic-Arte Museum, home to the exhibition Día de los Muertos: Coleccionando Memorias, preserves over five thousand artworks documenting Mexican, Latino, and Latin American culture across its downtown galleries. Visitors explore the permanent collection alongside rotating exhibitions and attend guided tours in English and Spanish led by knowledgeable staff. The museum hosts the monthly Changarrito residency featuring contemporary artists, and operates the Screen It! and AmArte education programs that serve underserved Austin youth. The 43rd Annual Viva La Vida Festival and Parade celebrates the Day of the Dead tradition, the largest such celebration in Texas. Admission is free on Sundays for all visitors. The museum sits at the corner of Congress Avenue and Fifth Street in Austin, with discounted parking available at the nearby Frost Bank Tower Garage. Active-duty military personnel and up to five family members receive free general admission through the Blue Star Museums program, according to mexic-artemuseum.org.
