About Museum of the Weird
Museum of the Weird houses Sfanthor's Chamber of Horrors, a classic movie monster wax museum where visitors photograph themselves in the hands of a life-sized King Kong. The museum occupies space inside Lucky Lizard Curios and Gifts on 6th Street in downtown Austin and draws from over twenty years of oddity collecting. Admission covers the Cabinet of Curiosities, featuring mummies, shrunken heads, fossils, cryptids, and the legendary Creature in Ice, which has appeared on Mysteries at the Museum and Unsolved Mysteries. The venue describes itself as one of the last dime museums popularized by P.T. Barnum in the eighteen-hundreds. Entry to the gift shop remains free. Tickets are sold online through the museum's website. Visitors unable to walk up stairs receive discounted admission to the Cabinet of Curiosities. Each purchase of twenty dollars or more at the gift shop includes one free admission to the museum. The attraction suits families and anyone curious about the bizarre and unexplained.
