About Mercer Museum

The Mercer Museum in Doylestown houses Henry Mercer's collection of over 17,000 pre-industrial tools and artifacts displayed throughout a six-story reinforced concrete castle completed in 1916. Visitors explore exhibits featuring more than 60 early American trades, with items suspended in mid-air across the Central Court in a distinctive display style. The museum holds artifacts ranging from 2,000-year-old whale oil lamps to Native American implements dating back 6,000 to 8,000 years. A Research Library contains over 20,000 books, county archives, and thousands of images for deeper study. The museum also features local and national traveling exhibitions and serves as a Smithsonian affiliate. Self-guided visits allow exploration at your own pace, with gallery guides available to answer questions. The museum operates Tuesday through Sunday, with timed-entry slots available, and tickets are sold online through the museum's website.
