About Lake City-Columbia County Historical Museum

The Lake City-Columbia County Historical Museum occupies an 1870s Italianate house in downtown Lake City, where visitors tour exhibits and artifacts spanning the region's history. The formal parlor displays Vinzant family belongings, including period furniture, photographs, and the sewing machine used to make family clothing. The Civil War room houses photographs, diaries, firearms, swords and memorabilia from the War Between the States. Upstairs, the Native American room presents tools, clothing and a model Creek village with a ceremonial square showing life among Florida and North American Indian tribes. An Eastlake-furnished bedroom represents the era's domestic style. The Patriot room honors military personnel from every American conflict, displaying items and documents from major wars. The kitchen preserves original beaded board walls and wide floorboards from the building's 150-year history. Guided tours by appointment and genealogical research are available to visitors exploring the county's past.
