The Amelia Island Museum of History in Fernandina Beach showcases four thousand years of life on the island, from the Timucua Native American tribe through Spanish and French explorers, pirates, and Victorian-era residents. Visitors explore permanent exhibits and featured exhibits that change quarterly, including current partnerships with the Smithsonian and University of North Florida. The museum offers docent-led Eight Flags tours highlighting the events and people that shaped the area's history. Additional guided experiences include pub crawls through historic taverns, ghost tours through dark streets, and walking tours of the Silk-Stocking District and Centre Street's historic buildings. The museum provides school tours, summer camps, and college internships for learners. Regular programs feature brown bag lunches and monthly community events. A research facility serves genealogists, homeowners, and authors. The museum operates Monday through Saturday mornings and afternoons, with Sunday afternoon hours and free evening hours on Fridays.
