About Gilroy Museum

The Gilroy Museum occupies the historic 1910 Carnegie Library Building, a classic revival structure designed by renowned California architect William H. Weeks. Visitors explore over 25,000 items relating to Gilroy and South Santa Clara County history displayed throughout the building. The museum features archival materials available for research by appointment, with photocopies available for a nominal charge. Educational traveling trunks filled with duplicate artifacts and reproductions are available free to schools and community groups, organized around themes including 1890s Kids and Ohlone Indians. Members of the Gilroy Historical Society offer free walking tours through Gilroy's historic districts on the first Saturday of each month. The museum began in 1958 when Armand White, a member of a pioneer family, displayed his personal collections in the Carnegie Library's basement. The museum expanded to use the entire building after the library relocated in 1975. The museum is located in Gilroy, California.
