About Fox Observatory

Fox Observatory in Markham Park, Sunrise, invites visitors to observe planets, stars, nebulas, and the moon through telescopes during free public viewings held every Saturday night after sunset. The observatory operates seasonally adjusted hours, staying open until approximately 11:30 PM during summer months and 10:30 PM during winter months. Visitors can explore the night sky alongside members of the South Florida Astronomy Association, which has operated the facility since 1966. The organization hosts monthly meetings at the observatory on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM, welcoming newcomers interested in stargazing. Members gain access to special observing nights, training opportunities leading to observatory certification after six months, and a monthly newsletter called The Meridian. The facility serves both casual observers new to astronomy and experienced stargazers seeking community connection. There is general admission free to the observatory.
