About Dutch Windmill Museum

The Dutch Windmill Museum in Nederland, Texas honors the city's heritage as a settlement founded by Dutch immigrants in 1898. Visitors tour a 40-foot tall replica of a traditional Dutch windmill that houses artifacts across two floors. The museum displays a trunk brought from Holland before 1900, wooden shoes, and Olympic Gold Medal memorabilia from native son W.F. "Buddy" Davis, winner in 1952. The first floor features a western-themed exhibit with a suit, boots and other belongings of country music star Tex Ritter, presented by his family. A small gift shop stocks imported items from Holland. A Texas State Historical Survey Committee marker stands in front of the building, placed in 1970. The surrounding Tex Ritter Park includes a separate marker honoring war veterans. The windmill was completed in 1969 following a project by the Nederland Chamber of Commerce.

Admission is free. The venue says: “Individual admission is free, although donations are welcomed.”
