About Brazos Valley African American Museum

Brazos Valley African American Museum explores and preserves the cultural history and heritage of African Americans in the region. Visitors walk through galleries displaying current exhibitions, including America250 exhibits on Black experiences in the Revolutionary era and the William A. Scott III Holocaust testimony exhibit. The museum houses archival records, historical artifacts, letters, documents, and oral histories that schools, churches, and researchers can access. A free FamilySearch program offers family history research assistance through the Pruitt-Sadberry center. The museum also hosts school and group tours by reservation, with groups of eight or more receiving discounted admission. Built on the site of one of the original Black schools in the Brazos Valley, the museum serves as both a cultural institution and research center for the community.
