About Cloverdale Museum of History

The Cloverdale Museum of History comprises the History Center and the Gould-Shaw House Museum, both located in Cloverdale, California. Visitors explore multiple galleries displaying carefully curated exhibits spanning Indigenous tools and basketry, lumber mills, citrus orchards, stagecoaches and resorts, town life, viticulture, and the Russian River. The History Center features the Cooley Room, Gray Hall, and Adler Exhibit Hall, along with an upstairs timeline wall tracing Cloverdale's history through photographs and descriptions. The Skelton Study serves as a research and accessioning center. The Gould-Shaw House Museum, built in 1862 in Gothic Revival style and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, showcases rare architectural elements including locally manufactured brick and hand-forged square nails. The house's garden is dedicated to Mae Gibson Foster. Visitors may also access extensive archives containing documents, photos and artifacts by appointment with the archivist, or take a self-guided walking tour of Cloverdale and its surroundings.
