About Chesterland Historical Foundation
The Chesterland Historical Foundation preserves the history of the township through a collection of restored structures and exhibits. Visitors walk through the Scotland School, built in 1847 and used as a one-room schoolhouse until 1926, which now displays the appearance of a 19th-century classroom. The Silas Tanner House, constructed in 1842, retains original wallpaper and framed sections revealing its original construction methods. The T.J. Thayer General Store features an interior layout resembling 1899, the year it opened as a local merchant's shop. The Stone Family Barn displays original post and beam construction, while the Chester Town Hall, built in 1850, serves as the foundation's focal point. An Interurban Station and a section of electric rail track commemorate the county's historic rail service. A small woodshed and outhouse stand behind the schoolhouse. The site is located in Chesterland, Ohio, at the corner of Caves and Mayfield Roads.
