About Cayuga Museum of History & Art

Cayuga Museum of History & Art in Auburn preserves the history and art of Cayuga County across three historic buildings. Visitors explore rotating and permanent art displays and local history exhibits within the Willard-Case Mansion, where three floors are accessible by elevator. The Case Research Laboratory offers guided tours at scheduled times, where guests learn about Theodore Case's invention of the Movietone sound-on-film system in the 1920s. The Carriage House Theater, a renovated 1850s building, served as Case's experimental film studio and now hosts live music, performances, and community events. The museum cares for thousands of artifacts, archives, and photographs from the Finger Lakes region. A digital guide is available for self-directed exploration. Admission is charged, with free entry for youth under seventeen and families on Saturdays.
