Cayuga Museum of History & Art in Auburn operates the Case Research Laboratory, where Theodore Case invented the first commercially successful sound-on-film system in the 1920s, and visitors take guided tours through the original workspace at set times throughout the day. The museum occupies three historic buildings: the Willard-Case Mansion displays rotating and permanent exhibitions of local art and Cayuga County history across three floors, while the renovated 1850s Carriage House Theater, where early sound films were recorded, now hosts live music and community events. Admission covers both the museum and Case Lab. Students seventeen and older, EBT cardholders, and Schweinfurth Art Center members pay five dollars instead of the standard rate. Children under seventeen enter free, and families receive free admission on Saturdays.
